Under pressure from Junior, Alfa Romeo is preparing a redesign for the Tonale at the end of the year

According to the latest information, the Alfa Romeo Tonale will undergo a thorough redesign at the end of the year, thus receiving a number of necessary improvements. The decision was made after the main sales were taken over by the more affordable Junior.

Tonale debuted in 2022 and everyone saw the attractive SUV as the salvation of the Italian brand. In 2023, 36,000 units were produced, and last year that number increased to 82,000 units.

However, the Italians then launched the new Junior. The smallest model of the brand took on the face of its bigger brother, but in a more attractive compact edition with a much more affordable price. That’s why Junior was chosen by almost 9,300 customers in Europe in the first quarter of the year, while Tonale, with less than 5,000 deliveries, recorded a drop of 43 percent.

Although the Tonale received a number of improvements some time ago, primarily with the introduction of new equipment packages, but also with the redesign of the lower part of the central tunnel which received a round regulator instead of the classic gear lever, Alfa Romeo is considering another redesign. At least that is what emerges from the statements of Alain Descat, Alfa Romeo’s head for the French market.

“We need to revitalize the Tonale, because it is key to our model portfolio. It is due for a refresh at the end of the year. Today the Tonale is suffering because we have focused too much on the PHEV, a powertrain whose popularity is now reduced due to higher taxes,” Descat told the French Press.
